In a grand celebration at the world’s largest cruise terminal in Miami, MSC Cruises officially named its newest flagship, MSC World America, on April 9, 2025. The event highlighted the company’s strong commitment to the North American market and ushered in a new era of innovation in cruise travel, according to PR Newswire.
A Star-Studded Ceremony
The naming ceremony saw renowned actress and talk show host Drew Barrymore take on the honorary role of Godmother. She followed maritime tradition by cutting a ceremonial ribbon, triggering the breaking of a champagne bottle against the ship’s bow. Barrymore was joined by actor Orlando Bloom, who co-stars with her in MSC Cruises’ vibrant “Let’s Holiday” advertising campaign that premiered during the Big Game.
Reflecting on her role, Barrymore said, “It’s such an honor to be MSC World America’s Godmother. Travel has always been close to my heart, and I know guests will make incredible memories aboard this ship.”
Introducing a New World of Cruising
MSC World America is the second vessel in MSC Cruises’ World Class series and the first in the fleet to feature seven distinct onboard districts. Each district offers a unique atmosphere with tailored experiences, dining, and entertainment options. Designed to blend European elegance with American comfort, the ship redefines how guests can enjoy their time at sea.
An Evening to Remember
The glamorous event attracted travel industry leaders, international media, VIPs, and senior MSC executives. Attendees were treated to a night of world-class entertainment, an elegant gala dinner, and a dramatic drone and fireworks display set against the Miami skyline.
Following the naming event, guests embarked on a celebratory sailing that included an overnight visit to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. The festivities on the island featured a lively beachside DJ party and the island’s iconic lighthouse show.
Environmental Commitment on Display
During the visit to Ocean Cay, the MSC Foundation inaugurated its new Marine Conservation Centre. The facility will support the Super Coral Program by hosting scientists, students and offering educational experiences for guests, all focused on restoring damaged coral reefs and raising awareness of climate change impacts on marine ecosystems.
Caribbean Inaugural Season
MSC World America will set off on her maiden public cruise on April 12, 2025, sailing from PortMiami. The ship’s inaugural season includes alternating 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries, with ports of call in destinations like Puerto Plata, San Juan, Costa Maya, Cozumel, and Isla de Roatan. Every cruise will include a stop at Ocean Cay, offering guests a perfect blend of relaxation and environmental exploration.
This celebratory launch marks a new chapter for MSC Cruises as it deepens its presence in North America and offers guests an unforgettable cruising experience with cutting-edge features and a strong focus on sustainability.
