Wondering why is it a complete MAN ship?
Here is the reason!
MSC Jade was delivered on May 20th which was fitted with world’s most powerful MAN engine – rated at 75,570 kW (103,000 hp) and the ship can carry some 19,000 + TEUs.

Is it to be noted that MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company) has ordered six ships which will house the MAN B&W 11G95ME-C9.5 two-stroke engine.
At least 68 MAN B&W G95 ME engines have been ordered to fit 8 to 11 cylinder main propulsion engines to cater the large containership market.
Note that 8 to 11 cylinders can propel 9,000 to 21,000 TEUs containerships.
Ole Grøne, senior vice president low-speed sales and promotions, MAN Diesel & Turbo, said: “We attribute the G95’s popularity in this segment to its ability to provide sufficient power for such vessels to reliably achieve their desired operating speed. The G95’s rpm ensures that a propeller of optimal size can be employed, in turn delivering a low fuel-oil consumption for an optimal fuel economy.”
The G95ME-C9, with a bore of 950mm and a stroke of 3,460mm, provides 6,870kW/cylinder at 80 rpm and 21 BMEP (in L1). It was introduced as a supplement to the successful S90ME-C9/10 engine types.
The ‘MSC Jade’ also features four MAN L32/40 auxiliary engines (two 8L32/40 and two 9L32/40 units), each with a single MAN NR34/S turbocharger. Thus MSC Jade and other sister ships are all MAN (MAN main engine, MAN auxiliary diesel and MAN turbochargers).
