MSC has become the first shipping company to operate ultra-large container vessels with a capacity of 24,000 TEUs on routes to Africa. The introduction of the MSC Diletta and MSC Türkiye on the Africa Express service is a significant development, linking major Asian markets like China and South Korea, via Southeast Asia, to important West African ports in Ghana, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, and Cameroon.

MSC Diletta’s Arrival Marks a New Chapter for West Africa

On April 23, MSC Diletta made its first visit to the Port of Lomé in Togo, marking a historic moment for the region’s maritime industry. MSC sees the deployment of these 24,000 TEU vessels as more than just an operational improvement — it reflects a strong, long-term commitment to Africa. The company aims to support the growth of regional trade, improve connectivity, and contribute to economic development and the well-being of local communities. So far, MSC Diletta has also called at Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, setting new records as one of the largest container ships ever to dock in West Africa.
