Turkish maritime firm Nakkaş Shipping & Trading Co has announced that its decade-long collaboration with Berg Propulsion will reach a significant milestone in 2026, with the delivery of its 10th propulsion system for a 5,700 dwt tanker.

This milestone order follows a consistent series of newbuilds featuring Berg systems, reaffirming the shipping group’s confidence in the Swedish propulsion technology provider.

10th Tanker Order Highlights Lasting Partnership

The latest tanker, to be constructed at Türkiye’s Gisan Shipyard, will be 99.99 meters long and 16.6 meters wide, mirroring the Navis Design & Engineering layout used in its nine predecessors ordered from various Turkish shipyards. Each of these vessels has featured Berg’s main propulsion systems, propellers, and thrusters, reflecting a strategic, long-term technical alignment.

“These ships have proved remarkably flexible in serving a range of operational needs on a variety of routes, due to their strong design and high performance systems,”said Emir Basak, Partner at Nakkaş Shipping.

Berg Propulsion’s Equipment Package

The newbuild will be powered by a 1920kW@750rpm main engine, enabling it to achieve a service speed of 11.5 knots. Berg Propulsion will supply:

  • Berg MPP850 main propulsion system

  • A 4000mm diameter propeller

  • One MTT111FP tunnel thruster with variable frequency drive

“Taking this series into double figures is a milestone for the trust placed in us by Nakkaş and a strong endorsement of Berg’s proven main offering from an ambitious shipping group,” said Taner Gündoğdu, Sales Manager, Berg Propulsion Eurasia.

Delivery Timeline and Regional Impact

The ninth tanker in the series is scheduled for delivery in 2025, with the 10th vessel’s propulsion equipment set to be delivered from Berg’s Hönö, Sweden facility to the Gisan yard in Istanbul by February 2026.

The latest order reinforces Türkiye’s importance in Berg’s growth strategy. The company’s Istanbul operation has become a regional hub, managing commercial ship, tugboat, and naval orders, while also providing retrofit services across the Middle East.
