Enhancing UK Shipbuilding and Defence Capabilities
Under Navantia UK’s management, these facilities will leverage advanced expertise in fabrication and complex programme management. A key focus is the continuation of the Fleet Solid Support (FSS) programme, which involves the construction of three Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels to support the UK Carrier Strike Group. The Belfast and Appledore yards will play a critical role in building these ships, in collaboration with Navantia’s shipyards in Spain.
Commitment to Growth and Innovation
Navantia Chairman Ricardo Domínguez highlighted the significance of this acquisition, emphasizing the integration of Harland & Wolff’s storied heritage with Navantia’s global shipbuilding expertise. He reaffirmed Navantia UK’s commitment to long-term investment in Britain’s maritime and renewable energy sectors.
Government and Regulatory Support
The UK Government has backed this strategic investment, which has received all necessary regulatory approvals. All current employees have transferred to Navantia UK under their existing terms and conditions, ensuring stability for the workforce.
Advisory and Transaction Support
The transaction was facilitated by independent advisors, including Alantra, Clifford Chance, TLT, and KPMG, who assisted in commercial negotiations and documentation.
With this acquisition, Navantia UK strengthens its position as a key player in the UK’s shipbuilding and clean energy sectors, paving the way for innovation and industrial growth.
