AI Innovation
NAVTOR and a consortium of Norwegian partners secured a 44mn NOK grant for their project, “Green AI for Sustainable Shipping” (GASS).
This initiative, led by NAVTOR, aims to pioneer AI technology to enhance vessel energy efficiency, addressing the lack of data-driven solutions in maritime environments.
GASS targets optimizing energy usage, and mitigating emissions by tackling complexities in data processing and ship operations for sustainable shipping practices.
Funding Announcement
Norwegian Minister announces GASS funding in green initiative.
“The Green Platform’s objective is to accelerate the green transition in business. There is incredibly exciting progress, and the support we are providing to these major projects is a significant contribution to the government’s goals for green transition and business growth,” says Minister of Trade and Industry Jan Christian Vestre.
- “NAVTOR considers this a significant step forward in our efforts towards sustainable shipping. We incorporate a great amount of data from vessels and combine these with a digital twin to develop services that can monitor, analyse, and optimize fuel consumption,” comments Bjørn Åge Hjøllo, Chief Sustainability Officer at NAVTOR.
- The project involves partners NAVTOR AS, Grieg Star AS, Maritime CleanTech, and others, focused on aiding vessel owners and operators.
- Their goal is to diminish greenhouse gas emissions by optimizing vessel performance and aligning with regulations. These efforts aim to uphold competitiveness while supporting a shift toward environmentally sound practices.
