The Ningbo Containerised Freight Index (NCFI), compiled by the Ningbo Shipping Exchange and promoted by the Baltic Exchange, reported declines across several major shipping routes for the week ending March 7, 2025.
Weekly Freight Rate Changes
- Ningbo to Europe: The freight index decreased by 7.94%, dropping from 1,036.38 to 954.04.
- Ningbo to West Mediterranean: A decline of 6.46% was observed, with the index falling from 1,548.79 to 1,448.75.
- Ningbo to East Mediterranean: The index experienced a significant decrease of 15.98%, moving from 1,390.42 to 1,168.17.
- Ningbo to Middle East: A modest decline of 2.91% was recorded, with the index slipping from 634.14 to 615.71.
The NCFI is a weekly index reflecting the fluctuations in freight rates for container transport departing from Ningbo to various global destinations. It is published every Friday at 1600 (Beijing time), except during Chinese holidays.

- Ningbo to Europe: Serves ports in Hamburg and Rotterdam.
- Ningbo to West Mediterranean: Covers ports in Barcelona, Valencia, and Genoa.
- Ningbo to East Mediterranean: Includes ports in Piraeus and Istanbul.
- Ningbo to Middle East: Encompasses ports in Dammam and Dubai.
The NCFI is based on transactional data submitted by various shipping companies, providing insights into the current trends and shifts in the container freight market.
