New AI System from Mythos AI to Revolutionize Maritime Navigation

10

In a significant development for marine technology, Mythos AI has installed its Advanced Pilot Assistance System (APAS) on the chemical tanker, CB Pacific. This collaboration with Lomar Group’s subsidiaries, CB Tankers and lomarlabs, marks the beginning of a year-long trial to test this new AI-driven system in real-world conditions.

Key Details of the APAS System

The APAS system is a sophisticated tool designed to assist, not replace, the vessel’s crew. Unlike systems that primarily use machine vision, APAS is built with a radar-first perception system. This allows it to integrate directly with existing ship radars and process multiple data streams to provide a single, clear alert to the crew. The goal is to reduce distractions and help mariners make better, safer decisions.

Collaboration and Operational Trial

This installation is a major step for Mythos AI, representing their first operational deployment of APAS on a tanker. The project is a collaboration with lomarlabs, which is providing technical oversight and vessel access for the trial. The CB Pacific was chosen as an ideal testbed due to its stable routing and existing Furuno radar setup. Over the next year, the system will be evaluated on its performance in critical areas like signal processing, collision prediction, and compliance with maritime navigation rules (COLREGs).

Future Outlook and Broader Impact

The partnership between Mythos AI and Lomar Group is designed to accelerate the development and maturity of the APAS system by capturing the expertise of master mariners and navigational data from ports globally. The trial is expected to lay the groundwork for wider adoption of the technology across fleets. This initiative also supports Mythos AI’s commercial strategy, which includes growing interest from both the commercial shipping and defense sectors. The success of this pilot could pave the way for broader regulatory approval and industry-wide use.
