Kaylene Dale brings a depth of experience to her new role as Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) built within Commonwealth regulatory settings and in the maritime sector. She had significant experience with AMSA’s search and rescue functions during her tenure at the Australian Border Force, where she held a number of leadership positions, the most recent being Deputy Commissioner for Strategy and Capability, reports Safety4Sea.

The Hon Catherine King MP says “I welcome Ms Dale to the role, where her leadership will help us continue to enhance the critical role AMSA plays in protecting our marine environment, supporting safe navigation and marine safety, as well as providing a national search and rescue service.”

Coming from Mick Kinley, who has led AMSA as CEO for a decade, it is interesting to see that Mick has indeed made a real and tremendous contribution in so many areas of policy and its execution.

He instilled a strong, positive culture that emphasizes collaboration, accountability, and a focus on what is ahead for our industry facing emerging challenges. His passion for seafarers’ welfare and maritime safety resonated well with AMSA, and the consequences will be felt long after his tenure.

Reflection on Achievements

In her comments, Kaylene Dale acknowledged Mick Kinley’s significant contributions: “I thank Mr Kinley for his significant service as CEO over the last decade, where he oversaw a number of achievements in Australian maritime safety. This included navigating the maritime safety challenges presented by the global pandemic, and before that, AMSA’s delivery of the national system – Australia’s single regulatory framework for the certification, construction, equipment, design and operation of domestic commercial vessels inside our exclusive economic zone.”
