On 20 October in Shanghai, the World Maritime University (WMU) and the Shanghai International Shipping Institute (SISI) launched the Global Green Shipping Development Report (2024–2025).

The report provides a comprehensive analysis of global trends, regulatory developments, and technological innovations shaping the transition toward green and low-carbon shipping.

Global Report on Green Shipping

Against the backdrop of increasingly stringent international emission regulations and growing industry commitment to sustainability, this comprehensive report offers valuable insights into the evolving landscape of green shipping. It reviews the latest initiatives by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the European Union, China, and other major maritime nations, as well as advances in clean marine energy, emission reduction technologies, carbon trading mechanisms, and green port development.

The Report aims to serve as a strategic reference for policymakers, industry leaders, and maritime stakeholders worldwide. By offering a detailed overview of policy evolution, market mechanisms, and emerging technologies, it seeks to promote informed decision-making and foster global collaboration toward the IMO’s net-zero goals.

The decarbonization of shipping is not only a regulatory necessity but also an opportunity to reimagine the future of maritime transport,” said Professor Dr. Aykut I. Ölçer, Director of Maritime Research and Head of Maritime Energy Management at the World Maritime University. “Through this report, WMU and SISI aim to provide evidence-based insights that can guide the sector toward a resilient and innovative maritime future.”
