In the months since Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, Greece’s Kalamata port has emerged as a significant conduit for Russian petroleum exports, says an article published In Splash.
Tracking data
While EU member states continue to haggle about an oil embargo, Greek players have made significant profits transferring Russian supplies.
Not only are Greek shipowners among the top Russian energy transporters in the last three months, but tracking data from Refinitiv Eikon indicates how vital the southern European nation has become for ship-to-ship loadings for onward destinations, primarily in Asia.
New records
Russian fuel oil supplies to Greece reached roughly 0.9 million tonnes in April, more than doubling March levels, with May on track to set new records.
According to the data, the majority of this was transferred from Russian ports to Greece’s Kalamata port in the Peloponnese.
