The new line handlers joining the SAAM Towage Canada fleet arrived at the Port of Vancouver after being offloaded from the MV Jumbo on January 6th from Hong Kong, reports Saam Towage.

Marine Operations key role

“These multi-purpose vessels play a crucial role in berthing and unberthing vessels by transferring mooring lines from the ships being assisted to crews on the ground. They also assist with emergencies, rescuing people from the water and scanning for incipient changes in weather, tides and wind for pilots at the terminal where they provide services,” said Brook Walker, Director of Operations for SAAM Towage Canada.

State-of-the-Art Design and Build

The 14-meter vessels are by McDuff Shipdesign and are being built by Choey Lee Shipyards in Zhuhai, China. According to the company, such advanced engineering will enhance operations efficiency.

Increasing Service Standards

“These new additions to our line handlers allow us to continue delivering our high service standards in Vancouver, maximize our operations, and continue to effectively service our customers,” said Walker.

Celebrating Heritage Through Beautiful Names

To respect the company’s long history, the vessels are named SAAM Lucille and SAAM Eriks to give inspiration to their employees.

  1. SAAM Lucille: This one is named after Lucille Johnstone, better known as “Tugboat Annie.” He was a path-breaking executive director and president in the 1970s and 1980s.
  2. SAAM Eriks: This name honours the Eriks family, especially John Eriks, a captain and dispatcher who guided many generations of his colleagues.

These names encapsulate the heritage and commitment of all those who have helped make the company a success today and establish an example of quality for the future.
