- Argentina implements a new OSRO certificate rule for all vessels navigating the River Plate and River Paraná, effective November 2024.
- Shipowners and agents will be held accountable for ensuring compliance with this regulation.
- Authorized Argentine companies must issue the OSRO certificates to vessels transiting these waterways.
Effective November 2024, the Argentine Agency of Ports and Waterways has implemented a new regulation requiring all vessels, including barge convoys, to obtain an Oil Spill Response Organization (OSRO) Certificate when navigating the main channels of the River Plate and River Paraná, reports ICS.
Expansion of Scope: Applies to All Vessel Types
This requirement now applies to all vessel types, not just tankers as previously mandated.
The OSRO certificate must be issued by an Argentine company authorized by the Coast Guard.
Shipowners and ship agents will be held liable for non-compliance with this regulation.
Pre-Arrival Compliance: Key for Smooth Operations
Vessels planning to transit the affected waterways should ensure they obtain a valid OSRO certificate from an authorized Argentine company before arrival.
