HMM reveals its Plan for New Containerships & VLCCs in 2017.

It has been a tough time for the dry bulk and the container market in 2016. With the New Year, just 15 days away, the restructured Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) has unveiled its new ship order plan for the next year. The Korean owner aims to order containerships and VLCCs in 2017, sources say.
What about Joining the 2M alliance?
The Asiasis website cited the company as saying it has formed a consultation group which will examine potential yards and demand for vessel types. It wants to replace box ships that are scheduled to be scrapped, as well as ordering feeder ships and focusing on eco-tonnage. The company has previously revealed ambitions to order mega-containerships and said its partial membership of Maersk Line and MSC’s 2M alliance is limited to an initial three years to prevent it restricting its ordering plans. But it has now said the slot-sharing deal does not include preclude fleet expansion.
