Ningbo Zhoushan Port Completes Its First LNG Bunkering Of 2025

The container ship MSC Adya departed from the Chuanshan port area of Ningbo Zhoushan Port on January 5, marking the port’s first LNG bunkering operation of the year. The vessel was loaded with over 10,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG), reflecting the port’s commitment to sustainable shipping practices.

Growing LNG Bunkering Industry

The increasing global demand for green and low-carbon shipping solutions has driven a significant rise in LNG-fueled vessels, accelerating the growth of the LNG bunkering sector. With robust support from government departments, ports, and industry partners, LNG bunkering operations within the China (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone have expanded, both in scope and service quality.

Milestones in LNG Bunkering Development

  1. June 2024:
    • Zhejiang Seaport International Trading Co obtained the LNG bunkering license for Zhoushan’s anchorages, enabling offshore bunkering services.
  2. August 2024:
    • The company expanded operations to the Meishan, Chuanshan, and Daxie port areas after passing navigable and simultaneous operation reviews.
  3. Permanent LNG Bunkering Vessels:
    • The Haiyang Shiyou 302, China’s first full-range LNG transport and bunkering vessel, is stationed at Ningbo Zhoushan Port. Along with its sister vessel, Haiyang Shiyou 301, it ensures efficient and high-quality LNG bunkering using a variety of methods.
