Oslo-based shipping company Norwegian Car Carriers (NOCC) has ordered two LNG dual-fuel car carriers from CIMC Raffles Shipyard in China, reports Engine.
The 7,000-CEU vessels will be able to run on both LNG and conventional marine fuels.

Additionally, these vessels will be ammonia-ready, which means that the vessels will not be capable of running on ammonia upon delivery, but they will have the option to be retrofitted for ammonia propulsion in the future. The company expects to take delivery of the first vessel in 2025.
LNG has been gaining popularity among shipowners. The global LNG-fuelled fleet is currently made up of 557 vessels, with another 160 expected to join this year, classification society DNV data shows.
LNG can curb carbon dioxide emissions by about a quarter compared to conventional bunker fuels. But its methane emissions can be 36 times more potent as a greenhouse gas (GHG) compared to carbon dioxide over a century, according to a World Bank study.
