NORDEN Completes Singapore’s First-Ever B100 Bunkering

NORDEN and BHP have partnered for a groundbreaking biofuel arrangement involving 1,000 tonnes of 100% biofuel (B100) on a voyage from Hay Point, Australia to Rotterdam, Netherlands. The Capesize vessel NORD Steel will carry out this eco-friendly voyage, marking a significant milestone for both companies, reports SAFETY4SEA.

Reducing CO2 Emissions by 2,500 Tonnes

The use of B100 biofuel on this voyage is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 2,500 tonnes, equivalent to removing 543 fossil-fueled vehicles from the roads for an entire year.

This substantial environmental benefit highlights the effectiveness of biofuels in maritime decarbonization efforts.

BHP’s Commitment to Biofuels Since 2021

Sarah Greenough, BHP’s Head of Maritime, emphasized the company’s ongoing commitment to biofuels since their first trial in 2021.

She expressed her delight in collaborating with NORDEN to integrate biofuels into their major shipping routes, contributing to decarbonizing supply chain emissions.

NORDEN’s Role in Supporting Decarbonization

Jan Rindbo, CEO of NORDEN, praised BHP’s leadership in decarbonizing the shipping industry. He also expressed pride in NORDEN’s role in supporting BHP’s efforts to lower supply chain emissions. He also reflected the trust placed in them for this vital mission.

In May 2024, NORDEN achieved Singapore’s first-ever 100% biofuel bunkering. Following a successful trial of a B24/VLSFO blend on the Panamax vessel NORD TAURUS, NORDEN was entrusted by ITOCHU Corporation to carry out the historic B100 bunkering. This achievement further solidifies NORDEN’s leadership in biofuel adoption.
