NORDEN has announced the addition of two new 17,500 dwt Multi-purpose (MPP) vessel leases with purchase options, expected for delivery by the end of 2026. The company also holds the option to declare two additional leases for delivery in 2027. This development supports NORDEN’s growth in the project cargo segment, a strategic focus since entering this market in 2023.
Favourable Market and Fleet Expansion
The MPP segment benefits from favourable market conditions, including an ageing global fleet and a low orderbook, combined with strong demand projections. With the addition of these vessels, NORDEN’s fleet now consists of 45 specialised ships dedicated to transporting windmill components, large-scale batteries, industrial plant components, and break-bulk cargo such as steel and forestry products.
Innovative and Sustainable Design
The new vessels feature a unique design with the bridge located at the front, optimising space for project cargo such as windmill blades. They are highly fuel-efficient and biofuel compatible, enabling reduced emissions and supporting NORDEN’s commitment to decarbonisation and offering sustainable freight solutions to customers.
Commitment to Leadership in Project Cargo
“To further enhance our service to customers, NORDEN is building a core fleet of Multi-purpose general cargo vessels. We are dedicated to becoming a leading project carrier and provide our customers with efficient shipping solutions and the addition of these vessels underscores our commitment to innovation and decarbonisation in the maritime industry,” said Thomas N. Mikkelsen, Head of Projects & Parcelling at NORDEN.
Integrated Freight Services
The project cargo segment is an integral part of NORDEN’s ocean-based global freight services, which spans nearly 500 vessels, handling dry and liquid bulk cargo of all sizes. These initiatives reaffirm NORDEN’s commitment to expanding its capabilities and sustainability in maritime shipping.
