Inmarsat Maritime, a Viasat company, together with distribution partner Station Satcom, has secured an order to install NexusWave, its fully managed bonded connectivity service, on a bulk carrier managed by Singapore-based Norse Ship Management. The move reflects Norse’s commitment to digitalisation, operational efficiency, and crew welfare by ensuring high-speed, unlimited, and global internet access at sea.
Supporting Digitalisation and Crew Welfare
NexusWave is designed to provide uninterrupted remote access to business-critical applications, including real-time engine monitoring and ship-to-shore data exchange. For crew members, the service delivers a home-like internet experience, allowing web-based applications to function as smoothly as on land.
-
Capt. Akshay Yadava, Managing Director at Norse Ship Management, emphasised that crew welfare is the top priority, with reliable internet becoming essential for maintaining morale and motivation.
-
With increasing demands for both commercial operations and crew connectivity, Norse selected NexusWave to upgrade its current system.
Advanced Network Bonding for Reliable Connectivity
Unlike traditional systems that rely on a single network, NexusWave’s unique network bonding technology allows applications to use the combined speed and capacity of multiple networks simultaneously. This ensures reliable, secure, and high-performance connectivity, even in remote locations.
-
Anshul Khanna, Director at Station Satcom, said the partnership demonstrates their commitment to smarter, safer, and more connected maritime operations, providing Norse with a single, robust platform tailored to evolving digital needs.
-
Justin Yi, Regional Director at Inmarsat Maritime, highlighted that Norse’s decision to adopt NexusWave shows its forward-thinking digitalisation strategy, combining crew welfare with operational efficiency.
The adoption of NexusWave by Norse Ship Management marks a significant step in maritime digitalisation, ensuring both operational excellence and crew satisfaction. With planned enhancements through the next-generation ViaSat-3 Ka-band network, NexusWave is set to deliver even greater speeds and capacity, reinforcing its role as a cornerstone of modern maritime connectivity.
