So far, at least 800 families in South Hwanghae Province have received assistance due to what North Korea has only described as an “acute enteric epidemic,” says an article published in NSBB News.
Chronic food shortages
The gastrointestinal tract is referred to as enteric, and officials in South Korea believe it could be cholera or typhoid.
The current outbreak, which was first reported on Thursday, adds to the isolation of the country, which is already dealing with chronic food shortages and a wave of Covid-19 infections.
Quarantines, “intensive screening for all residents,” and particular treatment and surveillance of vulnerable persons such as children and the elderly were among the measures specified by state news agency KCNA on Sunday.
Measures taken
According to KCNA, a national “Rapid Diagnosis and Treatment Team” is collaborating with local health officials, and steps are being taken to guarantee that cultivation in the crucial agricultural area is not disturbed.
Disinfection work, including sewage and other waste, is being carried out to assure the safety of drinking and residential water, according to the study.
Fever cases
On Sunday, KCNA reported 19,310 additional fever cases, but without detailing how many of those patients tested positive for the coronavirus.
Since a Covid outbreak was initially reported in mid-May, more than 4.6 million people have developed fever symptoms.
