Northern Lights Takes Delivery of Newbuild Liquefied CO2 Carrier

Norwegian Joint venture Northern Lights took delivery of a new liquefied CO2 carrier, Northern Phoenix, on 2nd December at Dalian Shipbuilding Offshore Co. Ltd. in China. The vessel will now be chartered to Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K-Line) under a long-term time-charter contract.

The vessel is intended to transport liquefied CO2, collected from clients outside Norway, to the Northern Lights receiving terminal in Øygarden, western Norway.

Northern Phoenix delivered

The Northern Phoenix is a Norwegian-flagged liquefied CO2 carrier. The vessel has a length of 130 metres, a beam of 22 metres, and a gross tonnage of 10,627. It has a cargo tank of 7,500 cubic metres, features LNG-fuelled propulsion and is equipped with wind-assisted rotor sails.

The delivery of the Northern Phoenix marks the third vessel in Northern Lights’ fleet after the Northern Pioneer which was delivered in November 2024, and the Northern Pathfinder was delivered in December of 2024. The vessel, along with its sister vessels, will be chartered by Northern Lights to K-Line under pre-existing bareboat charter contracts.
