Northern Offshore Services (N-O-S), a subsidiary of Northern Offshore Group (NOG) and part of the NYK Group, has launched the world’s first biomethanol-powered crew transfer vessel (CTV), named “Transporter”, as reported by NYK Line.
Crew Transfer Vessel Details and CEO’s Statement
The vessel, a converted smaller A-class CTV, is equipped with a methanol engine and will exclusively run on biomethanol, a clean and renewable fuel derived from sustainable biomass. This groundbreaking innovation highlights N-O-S’s commitment to advancing emission-reducing technologies and driving the decarbonization of the offshore wind industry.
The vessel has a seating capacity of 24, with a length of 25.35 meters and a beam of 7.6 meters. It features a forward deck area of 70 m² and an aft deck area of 30 m².
David Kristensson, CEO of NOG, stated that the company now operates the world’s first single-fuel biomethanol crew transfer vessel. He emphasized that this innovation is enhancing the sustainability of their fleet and setting a new standard for the maritime industry. Kristensson also highlighted that biomethanol serves as a powerful alternative to conventional fuels and expressed pride in leading the way.
