What happened?
Russian nuclear-powered container carrier SEVMORPUT interrupted her voyage to Antarctica sometime in the middle of October, limped to Angolan coast, southwest Africa,.
Since early November, she was cruising in legs at 4-6 knots speed off Luanda.
What is the reason?
Finally it was spotted that one of the propeller’s blades was damaged. The ship was waiting for divers team from S-Petersburg.
Problem rectified?
According to reports, the team of divers disengaged the broken blade and removed the symmetrical blade, to stabilize the propulsion system and ship’s sailing.
The ship sailed from S-Petersburg with a full research station module kit, and supplies. Not yet known if she will continue her voyage.
