In a significant development, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (DSIC), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), has entered into a contract with NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers Ltd. (NBP), a subsidiary of Japan’s Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line), reports iMarine News.
This contract, marking DSIC’s first major order of 2025, is for the construction of a 33,000 DWT deck carrier designed to transport large modular equipment.
Vessel building contract
The vessel, designed for the transportation of offshore wind power equipment, petrochemical modules, and other large cargo, will feature a wide deck and high deadweight capacity. It will be classed by NK and fly the Panama flag. The design, developed by Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI), a CSSC subsidiary, will significantly improve the efficiency of global special logistics.
The vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2027 and will contribute to the renewal of NBP’s fleet. This partnership is also a crucial step for DSIC to enter the high-end ship market in East Asia, known for its technical excellence and stringent standards.
