NYK has reported that it will be the first to deploy WinGD’s new variable compression ratio (VCR) technology, on two newbuild LNG-fuelled vessels, says an article published on WinGD.
Reducing GHG emissions
VCR improves efficiency and emissions by optimally adjusting engine compression ratio, previously a fixed parameter, depending on the fuel used.
In a statement, NYK said: “The system is expected to play an important role in reducing GHG emissions from existing ships and improving engine efficiency when decarbonized fuels are introduced.”
