The Nippon Yusen Kaisha Line has signed a seven-year contract with Total Gas & Power Chartering, a unit of Total, for the construction of a newbuild LNG carrier.
The contract has been drawn and includes a one-year extension option. The new vessel will be built by Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea and is due to be delivered in 2021.
Newbuild LNG specs
The LNG carrier will be equipped with a WinGD-made dual-fuel slow-speed diesel engine and can operate on marine gas oil or boil off gas stored in the cargo tank. The cargo tank will be a 174,000 cubic meter capacity GTT Mark III flex membrane-type tank capable of suppressing the boil-off rate.
Furthermore, the new carrier will feature a re-liquefaction system that can use surplus boil-off gas effectively.
