NYK Unveils Decarbonization Plans at AZEC Meeting

On August 21, Akira Kono, NYK’s Representative Director and Executive Vice President, joined the MOU ceremony during the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) ministerial meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia. The event highlighted key partnerships and initiatives aimed at advancing decarbonization efforts in Asia, reports NYK Line.

NYK’s Decarbonization Initiatives

During the ceremony, NYK introduced two significant decarbonization projects. The first is a partnership with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, focusing on maritime sustainability, digitalization, and workforce development.

The second initiative is an MOU with an Indonesian state-owned subsidiary of Pertamina for collaboration on liquefied CO2, LNG transportation, and ship management.

Future Collaborations

AZEC is a coalition including Japan, Australia, and nine ASEAN countries (excluding Myanmar), dedicated to speeding up decarbonization across Asia.

The Jakarta meeting was the second AZEC ministerial gathering, featuring discussions on cooperative projects between Japan and other AZEC member countries.

NYK plans to continue fostering partnerships in Asia to further support decarbonization goals.
