Ocean Alliance continues to strengthen its position across key global trade lanes, solidifying its dominance in major east–west routes. Recent market data shows that the alliance is not only maintaining its lead but also widening the competitive gap against rivals in Transpacific and Asia-Europe trades. This strategic shift reflects how its network stability and capacity planning are reshaping global carrier dynamics, according to the latest Sea-Intelligence Sunday Spotlight report.
Ocean Alliance Extends Lead Across Key Trades
Ocean Alliance’s growing influence is most visible on the Asia–North Europe route, where its operated capacity share is projected to rise from the steady 36–38% range to as high as 41% by December 2025. This surge underscores a decisive breakaway from competitors, as the alliance builds on the momentum gained after the 2025 network restructuring. Meanwhile, Gemini Cooperation, traditionally holding the second position, is expected to experience a decline to around 24–25% capacity share, narrowing the gap between the second, third, and fourth-ranked carriers, including Premier Alliance and MSC.
The pattern is similar across the Transpacific trades, where Ocean Alliance is forecasted to reach a 37% capacity share on the Asia–North America West Coast and up to 40% on the East Coast. These figures highlight a significant 20-point lead over any single competitor. Although the Asia–Mediterranean trade remains comparatively fragmented, Ocean Alliance is also gaining ground there, challenging MSC’s long-standing leadership. This steady consolidation positions Ocean Alliance as the defining force shaping the balance of power among global carrier alliances.
