- Ocean Power Technologies (OPT), a leader in innovative and eco-friendly marine power and data solutions, announced a new partnership with Unique Group, a prominent subsea technology provider headquartered in the UAE.
- This collaboration aims to introduce OPT’s unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the broader Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.
The strategic partnership leverages the strengths of both companies. OPT will contribute its commercially available WAM-V USVs, while Unique Group brings its extensive experience and established presence in the Middle East’s offshore energy sector. This combined expertise is expected to accelerate the adoption of USV technology across the GCC region.
“Working with Unique Group will further accelerate our efforts to deploy USVs globally,” said Philipp Stratmann, CEO of OPT. “We are very excited about the prospects of expanding into the UAE and applaud the local industry’s forward thinking in adopting autonomous technologies.”
Efficiency and Next-Generation Solutions
Unique Group’s knowledge of the regional landscape will ensure efficient maintenance and service support for OPT’s USVs. Additionally, the partnership aims to develop a new iteration of the WAM-V specifically designed for the GCC region. This next-generation USV will prioritize adherence to stringent local safety regulations while maintaining environmentally conscious and efficient operations.
“Unique Group is excited to announce our strategic partnership with Ocean Power Technologies,” said Jack Dougherty, Global Head of USV at Unique Group. “By leveraging our experience and advanced engineering capabilities, we are committed to helping OPT develop a GCC-specific WAM-V 22. This next generation vessel will be designed to meet the regions stringent safety regulations while ensuring environmentally conscious and efficient operations.”
A Promising Future for Autonomous Technology
This collaboration positions both OPT and Unique Group at the forefront of introducing and advancing autonomous technology within the Middle East’s offshore energy sector. The combined expertise and focus on regional adaptation bode well for the successful integration of USVs into the UAE and GCC’s maritime operations.
