  • OceanWings is now positioned as a ready-to-deploy solution for upcoming IMO and EU regulations.

OceanWings has secured a Type Approval Design Certificate (TADC) from DNV for its automated wingsail propulsion system, a milestone that reinforces its readiness to support shipping’s shift toward cleaner energy and stricter compliance requirements. The recognition highlights the system’s technical maturity and reliability, according to OceanWings.

The DNV certification confirms that the OceanWings rigid wingsail system—available in both tiltable and fixed versions—meets rigorous safety, reliability, and operational standards. This achievement is expected to streamline class approvals, reduce technical risks for shipowners, shipyards, and flag states, and position OceanWings as a practical solution for meeting regulatory frameworks such as IMO’s MEPC 83/84, FuelEU Maritime, and the upcoming Global Fuel Standard. Presented during London International Shipping Week, the certification underscores growing momentum for wind-assisted propulsion. Both OceanWings and DNV emphasized the importance of this milestone in building confidence for wider adoption as the industry seeks proven technologies to accelerate decarbonization.
