The Johor division of Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) of Johor on Wednesday (18 August) arrested an oil tanker suspected of being anchored without permission at 14.5 eastern nautical miles of Tanjung Penawar at about 7.15pm on 17 August, reports the Manifold Times.

Johor State Maritime Director, First Admiral Nurul Hizam bin Zakaria, stated the Malabo-registered vessel was arrested was arrested after the Captain failed to show any documents of permission for anchoring within Malaysian waters.
The tanker is operated by seven Indonesians aged within 21 to 55 years old.
Shipping firms should adhere to rules
The case will be investigated under Section 491 B (1) (l) of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952. If found guilty, parties face a fine not exceeding RM 100,000 or an imprisonment term for not more than two years, or both.
“Malaysian Maritime again wants to insist that the owner or agent of shipping firms must adhere according to the rules set when entering Malaysian waters in order to avoid any action taken as this operation will be conducted from time to time again,” states MMEA.
