One Direction topped in eight categories at the Teen Choice Awards bettering their nearest rival 5 Seconds of Summer. The other groups who lost to 1D include Justin Bieber, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Rihanna and Nicole Scherzinger to win the selfie taker prize.
They were adjudged as the best in following categories: best male group, tour, single, love song, party song and best summer music group. They were also collectively acclaimed as the best male hottie, ahead of Zayn Malik – who quit the band in March.
The British boy band 1D are still on tour in the US (Colombus and Ohio) and so the four could not attend the ceremony in Los Angeles.
Harry Styles offered a “massive, massive thank you” to the teens who’d voted for them. They posted a short video message holding aloft one of their surfboard-shaped awards.
