Ocean Network Express (ONE) has taken a significant step toward environmental accountability by launching a Ship Recycling Policy and joining the Ship Recycling Transparency Initiative (SRTI). These initiatives are designed to ensure that the company’s vessel decommissioning processes align with the highest standards of safety, sustainability, and transparency.
Committing to Responsible Ship Decommissioning
As ONE’s owned fleet continues to grow, the company is prioritizing the ethical and environmentally safe dismantling of its vessels at the end of their operational life. The new Ship Recycling Policy mandates that all ships be recycled only at certified facilities that comply with international regulations, such as those set by the upcoming Hong Kong Convention (HKC), which will take effect on June 26, 2025.
Promoting Transparency through SRTI Participation
By joining the Ship Recycling Transparency Initiative, ONE commits to voluntarily disclosing its ship recycling practices. This move supports industry-wide efforts to enhance transparency, promote accountability, and foster sustainable practices across global maritime operations.
A Key Pillar in ONE’s Green Strategy
This policy forms part of ONE’s broader ‘Clean Ship Recycling’ initiative, one of seven major pillars under its Green Strategy. Senior Vice President Michimasa Noda highlighted the importance of the company’s efforts in promoting safe, socially responsible, and environmentally sound recycling processes as ONE continues to position itself as a leader in maritime sustainability.
