The ship ‘Astro Tamoio’ owned by ‘Astromaritima Navegacao’ which was due for launch on 1st October has been involved in a water cannon accident which claimed the life of a female crew member and injured three other colleagues when a water cannon went off on the deck.
The incident occurred over the weekend when the ship was performing trials in the sea on the Guanabara Bay near Rio de Janeiro. The water cannon tests carried out in Brazil waters are usually performed in the presence of navy personnel. The water cannons that are usually to be aimed out to the sea was aimed at the deck during this unfortunate incident.
The ship is currently anchored and under investigation, while the investigators are working out how the accident occurred.
