The International Association of Dry Cargo Shipowners (INTERCARGO) has published its Annual Review, taking in the highs and lows of the past 12 months and explaining how it takes action to promote the human factor.
Highlighting the historic milestone in the newly published Annual Review, which covers the reporting period from September 2022 to August 2023, INTERCARGO Secretary General Dr Kostas Gkonis explained that the Association now boasts 250 members from across 30 countries.
As a result, the registered fleet is corresponding to about 33% of the global dry bulk fleet on deadweight terms (this percentage was less than 25% only 12 months ago).
HEI The Association now represents about a third of the global dry bulk fleet in deadweight terms, after reaching a new historic high at the end of August this year.
Supporting the Human Factor
INTERCARGO continues to participate in the HEIG, which was established in conjunction with the IMO to facilitate industry input into various IMO initiatives of which our interest has predominantly related to issues involving hazards associated with Enclosed Space Entry.
The Human element Advisory Group (HEAG)
This group, led by the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), has been in place since late 2020 and is charged with working with industry to look at ‘safety culture’ within the shipping industry. INTERCARGO continues to support this activity through active participation.
