The Posidonia shipping exhibition, held at the Athens Metropolitan exhibition this year, in the first week of June saw a record-setting figure of overall participants says GTP.

  • Posidonia Shipping Event was held earlier this month.
  • The number of participants broke all barriers exceeding 40,000 people.
  • Participation was seen from around 103 countries and territories.

Participation Figures

According to the organizers, the number of overall participants, including exhibitors, visitors and press, exceeded the 40,000 people mark as compared to 36,000 in 2018. The esteemed shipping exhibition this year consisted of 1,964 exhibiting companies from 88 countries and around 29,000 visitors coming from 103 different countries. AN absence of Asian, mainly Chinese visitors was noted due to the Covid-19-related travel restrictions. The international prestige, size and quality this year raised its bars to another level, indicating that there is room for further development of an even bigger event in 2024.

Recovering from the Covid-19 setback

“Our challenge for this year was to resume the event and rediscover the momentum lost during the height of the pandemic. I think we did a pretty good job, to not only achieve both of our basic objectives for the event but to also set the bar even higher for the future,” stated the Posidonia Exhibitions S.A. Managing Director Theodore Vokos. He further added that the response and feedback received from exhibitors, visitors, government officials and maritime stakeholders was overwhelmingly buoyant. “The four-year gap brought even more energy and a renewed optimism everywhere you’d look at and all indications are that the industry will continue to support Posidonia for years to come,” Vokos said.

Organizers

This event is organized under the aegis of the Military of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, the Union of Greek Shipowners and the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping along with additional support from the Municipality of Piraeus and the Greek Shipping Co-operation Committee.

The 2024 edition of Posidonia will take place in June.
