Panama’s bunker market saw notable growth in the first half of the year, with total sales reaching 2,736,445 metric tonnes—a 19.8% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Very low-sulfur fuel oil led the market, accounting for around 62% of total sales at 1,696,330 metric tonnes, representing a 20.5% year-over-year increase.
High sulphur fuel oil also recorded a 15.7% increase, reaching 739,359 metric tonnes. Low sulphur marine gasoil and marine gasoil followed suit, climbing by 42.8% and 26.7% respectively. Vessel activity grew as well, with 3,773 ships bunkered, a 26.8% rise from the previous year. However, the number of bunker barges in operation dropped slightly from 184 to 176.
