- Paris Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has published the key outcomes of its unannounced Focused Inspection Campaign (FIC), which specifically targeted fire doors and took place from July 1 to July 28, 2024.
- The findings from this campaign raised significant concerns, revealing a non-compliance rate of 13.9%. Alarmingly, 30% of these non-compliance cases were attributed to a lack of implementation of the International Safety Management (ISM) Code.
During its 57th Committee meeting in Madrid last May, the Paris MoU discussed the results of the Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) on Fire Safety, which was held from 1 September to 30 November 2023.
Paris MoU Focused Inspection Campaign on Fire Doors
These results were shared with the industry. Overall, compliance appeared to be satisfactory, however the result was less favorable on two specific topics; good working condition of fire doors (9.3% non-compliance) and fire drills (9.2% non-compliance). In the press release issued at the time, the Paris MoU indicated that it expected the industry to give these issues the necessary attention.
As part of the ongoing investigation into possible efficiency improvements regarding inspection campaigns, the member Authorities of the Paris MoU held an unannounced Focused Inspection Campaign (FIC) on fire doors from 1 to 28 July 2024.
The findings of this FIC raise concerns for the Paris MoU, as 13.9% of non-compliance was recorded. Of this 13.9%, 30% was considered to be a lack of implementation of the ISM Code.
Again, the Paris MoU would like to emphasize the importance of compliance on this specific subject and would like to call on the industry to take the appropriate measures.
