A New Era of Eco-Friendly Shipping
Pasha Hawaii’s fleet recently welcomed the 774′ Janet Marie, the second liquefied natural gas (LNG) fueled vessel in the ‘Ohana class. Departing from Long Beach, California, on July 29, the Janet Marie is on its maiden voyage to its home port in Honolulu, marking a significant step towards eco-friendly shipping solutions.
Recognizing Worldwide Ingenuity
Built by AmFELS in Brownsville, Texas, the Janet Marie is a testament to American ingenuity and shipbuilding prowess. Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, the George III, which began service in August 2022, both vessels have set a new standard for sustainability and environmental consciousness in the maritime industry.
Leading the Way
The ‘Ohana class vessels go beyond compliance with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) 2030 emission standards for ocean vessels. These eco-conscious ships boast the latest technological advancements and innovative features, making them the most energy-efficient and environmentally friendly vessels to serve Hawaii.
A Collaborative Effort
Pasha Hawaii’s commitment to sustainability aligns with the Port of Long Beach’s vision for a cleaner future. The Jones Act-compliant Janet Marie plays a pivotal role in reducing emissions from port operations, supporting the port’s goal of deploying all zero-emission cargo-handling equipment by 2030 and zero-emission trucks by 2035.
Long Beach Harbor Commission President Sharon L. Weissman expressed her appreciation for Pasha Hawaii’s leadership in cleaner shipping practices, further enhancing air quality throughout the region. The Port’s CEO, Mario Cordero, emphasized that the Janet Marie represents a significant milestone in the pursuit of a greener supply chain and underlined the port’s commitment to fostering environmental stewardship.
