A passenger ferry collided with a Panama-flagged cargo vessel in the Bosphorus Strait in the evening of 19 September, resulting in twelve injured, reports Safety4sea.
Cargo vessel collision
The crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. near Salacak, off Istanbul’s Uskudar district, and involved a passenger ferry, which runs between Beşiktaş and Uskudar, and another dry cargo ship. Initial reports suggested only two injuries, but Turkish authorities later confirmed that 12 people were hurt.
Authorities noted that no passengers fell into the water, and the injured were taken to hospitals after the ferry docked safely at Pasalimani.
Following the incident, both vessels were removed from the Bosphorus shipping lane. The cargo ship was anchored in a secure location by Coast Guard teams for inspection, and investigations into the cause of the collision are underway.
