Performance Shipping Inc., a Greece-based global shipping company specializing in tanker ownership, has announced the acquisition of two modern Suezmax tankers, marking a significant step in its ongoing fleet expansion and modernization strategy. The vessels, built in 2019 by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, will enhance the company’s operational capabilities and energy efficiency, as published by Global News Wire.
Fleet Expansion and Modernization Strategy
Performance Shipping’s latest acquisition involves the purchase of two 157,286 dwt Suezmax tankers, M/T Eco Bel Air and M/T Eco Beverly Hills, through its wholly-owned subsidiaries. These vessels, valued at USD 75.4 million each, are equipped with advanced energy-efficient technologies such as rudder bulbs, pre-swirl ducts, and scrubber systems. Following delivery between December 2025 and January 2026, they will be renamed M/T P. Bel Air and M/T P. Beverly Hills. CEO Andreas Michalopoulos emphasized that the acquisition aligns with the company’s growth strategy following its US$100 million bond issue earlier this year. The addition of these eco-designed ships will not only lower fuel consumption but also strengthen the company’s competitive position in the midsize tanker segment.
