A person died after being crushed by a container near the Port of Tauranga at Mount Maunganui.
After midday, a sudden crash between a container and truck at Mount Maunganui crushed and killed a person whose identity is yet to be confirmed. This is said to be a work-related accident as it happened in an industrial bay.
The emergency services were called. Fire Service Northern Communications reached the premises on Totara St about noon. The firefighters extricated the victim and took him in an ambulance. St John ambulance paramedics who attended the accident victim declared him dead on arrival.
The complete investigation of the accident is underway.
