Peru Beach Encounters Mysterious Ghost Ships And Environmental Concerns

293

Two abandoned vessels washed up on Peru’s Ventanilla Beach within two months, sparking environmental and safety concerns.

Maritime Mystery

The first ship, reported missing in October after being anchored off San Lorenzo Island, appeared on the west coast. Later, a second vessel, believed to be involved in its rescue, arrived at the same spot.

Both ships carried over 600 gallons of fuel, raising worries about potential environmental damage.

Urgent Environmental Risks

Authorities demanded their swift removal to prevent pollution, prompting the Port of Callao’s head to file a complaint with the Environmental Matters Prosecutor’s Office due to the owners’ inaction.

However, the costly removal options by sea or land pose a significant challenge. Beyond environmental worries, public safety is also a concern as locals are drawn to the site, risking accidents while exploring the rusting vessels.
