Petrobras Hits New Daily LNG Regasification Record

712

Brazil’s state-owned energy firm Petrobras said it has achieved a record number of ship-to-ship (STS) LNG operations as the country continues to boost LNG imports on high demand, says an article published in LNG Prime.

Petrobras said in a statement it had completed on November 4 the 104th STS LNG operation at its terminals this year.

LNG operation

According to Petrobras, this number already exceeds 103 operations from 2014, the year with the highest amount so far, and reflects the growth of LNG imports by the company this year.

Since the launch of the first FSRU-based LNG terminal in Brazil in 2009, Petrobras said it has completed in total 716 STS LNG operations.

The firm expects to complete 120 such operations this year.

Also, Petrobras says the new record is the result of a set of initiatives adopted by the firm to expand the natural gas supply, ensuring compliance with its commitments in the current scenario of the national water crisis.

Daily regasification record

Brazil is turning to LNG to fuel its power plants due to a severe drought that has considerably affected hydroelectric power in the country.

Earlier this year, Petrobras reached a daily regasification record. Petrobras had supplied a record of 42 million m³/day of regasified LNG in June.

It has also recently recently signed a lease deal with Texas-based floating LNG player Excelerate Energy for the Bahia LNG terminal.

Excelerate has provided regasification services in Brazil since 2012, operating at Petrobras’ LNG terminals in Bahia, Guanabara Bay, and Pecem.
