The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and key maritime stakeholders have voiced their support for the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) with the signing of the Pledge of Commitment Board during the launch of the Interim Philippine National Maritime Search and Rescue (PNMSAR) Manual 2025 on 10 October 2025. The initiative marks a major step in enhancing the nation’s maritime emergency response capabilities.

Strengthening Maritime Emergency Response

The signing ceremony, titled “Commitment to Implement the Philippine National Maritime Search and Rescue Manual 2025,” was presided over by PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil L. Gavan. The event aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s initiative to standardize Coast Guard search and rescue (SAR) equipment. Through this collaborative effort, stakeholders aim to improve coordination, efficiency, and compliance with international SAR standards.

Enhancing National and Global Credibility

Admiral Gavan emphasized that a strong and well-coordinated SAR framework not only improves maritime safety outcomes but also strengthens the Philippines’ credibility in global maritime and tourism sectors. The collaboration highlights the Coast Guard’s commitment to building a globally competitive SAR mechanism while fostering stronger inter-agency coordination. The launch of the Interim PNMSAR Manual 2025 provides the foundation for these improvements.

The launch of the Interim PNMSAR Manual 2025 and the associated pledge of commitment demonstrate the Philippines’ dedication to advancing maritime safety and emergency preparedness. By aligning national practices with international standards, the PCG and its partners are set to bolster both operational efficiency and the country’s reputation in the global maritime community.
