Pacific International Lines (PIL) has marked another milestone in its sustainability journey with the naming of its newbuild vessel, Kota Orkid. The ceremony took place on October 28 at the Yangzijiang Shipbuilding yard in Jiangsu, China. Designed with advanced green technologies and improved fuel efficiency, the vessel underscores PIL’s commitment to fleet renewal and environmentally responsible shipping.
Advanced Design and Green Technology
Kota Orkid is equipped with engines that significantly reduce methane emissions and can operate on bio-methane fuels, reflecting PIL’s push towards cleaner propulsion systems. The vessel’s hydrodynamic hull design and advanced anti-fouling coating further enhance fuel efficiency and reduce drag, making it a sustainable addition to the company’s growing fleet. Notably, the ship also features ammonia intermediate-ready fuel tanks, ensuring future compatibility with emerging alternative fuels.
Strengthening Global Service Network
Part of PIL’s O Class series, Kota Orkid joins sister vessels Kota Oasis, Kota Ocean, and Kota Odyssey on the South West Africa Service, linking Asia and West Africa. This deployment enhances PIL’s operational reach and service offerings, reinforcing its focus on efficiency, capacity, and reliability in global trade routes.
The addition of Kota Orkid marks the eighth newbuild vessel introduced by PIL within a year, showcasing the company’s strong commitment to sustainability and innovation. With four 14,000 TEU LNG-powered vessels already in operation and 11 more on order, PIL continues to invest in next-generation technologies to build a cleaner, smarter, and more resilient fleet for the future of global shipping.
