Pacific International Lines (PIL) has officially named its fourth 14,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel container vessel, Kota Embun, in a ceremony held at Shanghai’s Jiangnan Shipyard. The vessel was named by Mrs. Evelyn Ng, wife of Mr. Ng Kee Choe, Deputy Chairman of PIL.

A Symbol of Sustainability

The name “Embun”, meaning “dew” in Malay, represents renewal and harmony with nature, aligning with PIL’s commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly shipping.

Key Features of Kota Embun

  • Part of PIL’s “E” Class series, the largest vessels in its fleet.
  • First PIL vessel with a bow windshield, improving aerodynamics and reducing fuel consumption and emissions by 1% annually.
  • Designed and built by Jiangnan Shipyard, China.
  • Operates on the Far East to West Coast Central and South America Service 2 route.

Commitment to Greener Shipping

Lars Kastrup, CEO of PIL, emphasized that the E-Class vessels mark significant progress in PIL’s fleet renewal strategy. PIL has ordered a total of 18 newbuild vessels since 2022, including:

  • Four 14,000 TEU vessels (including Kota Embun).
  • Four 8,000 TEU vessels.
  • Five 13,000 TEU vessels.
