- Pilbara Ports’ new Ship WiFi Support Program offers free data top-ups for onboard WiFi systems at the Port of Port Hedland.
- The initiative replaces individual SIM support, ensuring all crew members can stay connected with loved ones during port calls.
Pilbara Ports has announced a major upgrade to seafarer welfare services with the introduction of the Ship WiFi Support Program, launching Monday, 12 May 2025. This new initiative will replace the existing SIM card recharge model with a more comprehensive ship-wide WiFi solution.
Ship WiFi Support Program
Under the program, participating vessels will receive free mobile data top-ups for a ship-installed WiFi system each time they return to the Port of Port Hedland. The goal is to ensure that all crew members aboard have broader access to the internet, improving their ability to stay connected with family and friends during port stays — a key factor in supporting mental health and wellbeing.
To participate, ships are encouraged to install a Ship WiFi Pack, which includes a Telstra-enabled mobile WiFi router and a mesh WiFi extender. Once operational, data top-ups will be remotely managed by the Port Hedland Seafarers Centre throughout each visit or anchorage stay.
This initiative underscores Pilbara Ports’ commitment to enhancing seafarer welfare and promoting an inclusive and connected maritime community.
