Pilot Helicopter Crashed Near a Vessel

On March 14, a Mackay Helicopter Airbus was left to destroy after it crashed into the Sea while approaching an iron ore carrier in Western Australia.

What happened?

The helicopter was approaching the bulk iron ore carrier ‘MV Squireship’ located 30 km off Port Hedland, Western Australia when it fell into the Sea under the cover of darkness.

The carrier had departed from the Hedland port and was enroute to Qingdao, China when the incident occurred. The pilots were tasked to collect the marine pilot from the vessel.

Pilot missing

The port officials were notified about the incident and dispatched rescue teams to the site for rescue operations. The rescue team was able to rescue one pilot from a life raft whereas the search is underway for the missing pilot.
