Pirate Attack Curbed as Crew Members Pose a Tough Challenge

Pirates attack anchored bulk carrier :

On July 24, In Samarinda Anchorage, Indonesia, three robbers in a small wooden motor boat approached and boarded an anchored bulk carrier.

Duty crew on routine rounds noticed the robbers and raised the alarm.  Seeing the crew alertness, the robbers escaped with stolen ship’s stores.  A search was carried out throughout the ship.  The Incident was reported to port control and the port police arrived at the location for investigation.

Pirates attack cable layer vessel :

On July 22, Sixteen pirates in two skiffs armed with AK47 and an RPG approached and fired upon a cable layer vessel installing cables at 0.5 knots.

Alarm was raised as well as SSAS was also activated, all non-essential crew retreated to the citadel.  UKMTO and a warship acknowledged the urgency calls made by the Master.  The armed security team onboard returned fire resulting in the pirates aborting the attack and moving away.  All crew were reported safe.
